History of the Community Centre presented to MP David Heathcoat-Amory

A presentation of a histoiy of the “Old Hall”, currently the Community Association centre, researched and written by the Archivist of the Burnham University of the Third Age, Mrs Veronica Richardson, to our local MP Mr David Heathcoat-Amory.

This interesting history chronicles the life of the Community Centre from 1830 when it was built by Dr Walker King, Bishop of Rochester, as a private house, through its time as a home for the blind and in more recent times as a youth centre, becoming eventually a centre for the Burnham Community Association leased from its owners Sedgemoor District Council.

The ceremony, conducted by the Association Chairman, Mr Ken Hindle, was designed to raise the profile of the Centre and assist in raising funds to ensure its continued existence and so continue to serve the Town and the more than 60 groups who regularly use its accommodation.
