Burnham on Sea U3A
This French group is in its third year. Although lessons are oral based, the structure of the language and the culture of its country are discussed.
Some preparation of the lesson by students is required each week and regular attendance is a must in order to make progress.
The group meets on each Thursday morning at 10.00am in the Community Centre.
Group Leader is Colette Winfield.
FRENCH GROUP 2.
At the present time within the U3A there are two French groups, Intermediate and Advanced.
The Intermediate group consists of 10 members who are following a taught programme delivered by a French lady living in Burnham.
Each session of the Advanced group is co-ordinated by one of the 7 members who each take it in turn to prepare and deliver the lesson, but this is not a requirement. The first half hour is taken up using the course book which is currently “Improve your French” by Jean-Claude-Arragon. This mainly helps to improve vocabulary, reading and translating skills.
The second half of the lesson is directed at improving conversation and listening skills, studying grammar, or generally aiming to extend our knowledge in many varied directions.
Every 4th week we are extremely fortunate to have Colette Winfield , a French lady, who is a professional teacher living in Burnham, The whole hour is spent listening, translating and speaking the French language.
What have we achieved? Well first of all we are studying a language that we love in a very friendly environment. Some of us are more able than others, but we all strive for fluency, and all of us have developed our reading and translation skills very well.
We are very grateful to the U3A for enabling us to meet every Tuesday morning, room 1, from 10am to 11am at The Community centre. Burnham on Sea.
