Burnham on Sea U3A
Although predominately an all-female group, (there being just one male, who revels in their company, and calls them his ladies) we would love to welcome more male painters to the group, although, at present we have 14 members, and a short waiting list. This, of course, provides the ideal opportunity for someone to start up a second group.
The group is run by two experienced artists; Marion Bath and myself Pete Smith.
Our aim is to give structure, direction, a little tutoring, help guidance and demonstrations when needed to our members, thereby hoping to keep their enthusiasm going.
Marion is a lively and valued member, not just of our group, but several others on the B-O-S art scene; myself, being fairly new to the area, found that without Marions invaluable help and encouragement, would not have got so far without her inspiration and confidence in me. The group itself could not have survived without Marion's help and support.
Both our styles of painting are different, with Marion's being of fine detail, especially with her exquisite flowers and hedgerow work. Mine is of a much looser and more impressionistic form, ideal for land and seascapes. Both scenarios lend themselves beautifully to water colours and have proved popular with the class, as they enjoy trying the different formats, eventually achieving a style that is their own.
Although the main medium used is watercolour, other mediums are introduced for added interest. i.e. pastel and charcoal.
We meet every Wednesday morning 9.00- 11 .3Oish in the Community Centre, room 2. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. Why not pop in and have a look. A warm welcome is guaranteed.
